Wine Thoughts
  • White:  I have been drinking The Steven Kent Winery Chardonnay 2010 recently and I love it with fish!
  • Red:  A to Z Pinot Noir 2011 is a very reasonably priced pinot that is light enough to drink with fish.

Mimi's Shopping List
1  5 oz container baby romaine lettuce (The plastic boxes baby romaine is packaged in normally contains 5 oz.)
1 medium sized fennel bulb
1 medium sized sweet onion
1 head of garlic
1 cup roasted brussel sprouts (optional)
1-2 lemons

2 flounder fillets (We assume 1 per person.)

parmigiano reggiano cheese
unsalted butter

1  14 1/2 oz can of diced tomatoes
extra virgin olive oil
1 box of orzo pasta
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Bottle of white or red wine (or both!)

Organization and Other Thoughts

  • Assume you are cooking this on Wednesday. Monday, check your pantry.  Do you already have:  fresh garlic, parmigiano reggiano cheese, unsalted butter, extra virgin olive oil?
  • The brussel sprouts are optional because if you don't have them leftover or you can't buy them already roasted, this ingredient will complicate the preparation of a fairly simple menu.
  • You can buy everything on this list on Tuesday, except for the flounder.  We think you should buy that on Wednesday if possible.
  • The recipes, as written, are intended for 2 people.  The sauce you make for the fish, however, is enough for 4 people.  If you are going to feed 4, you will have to double the salad ingredients and cook the entire box of orzo.
  • We like to cook with Barilla pasta.
