The Weekend is Here ... Relax!

Wine Thoughts

Red:  Since visiting France last year, I am frequently drawn to Perrin family wines that appear to be a good buy.  My most recent discovery is Famille Perrin Nature Côtes du Rhône 2011.  I experienced herbs on the nose and then licorice and black pepper in the first sip.  The longer it was open a fruitiness and dark chocolate emerged for me.  This would go very nicely with Sue's meal.  Like I always say though, everyone experiences wine differently.  Give it a try.


Shopping List

PRODUCE
1 head of celery
1 stalk of leeks
1 large sweet onion
1 head of garlic
1 large fat carrot
2 russet potatoes
1 large zucchini
2 turnips
2 tomatoes
2 fennel bulbs
1 bunch flat leaf parsley
2-4 clementine oranges

MEAT
1/2 lb of your favorite hard salami

DAIRY
1 wedge parmigiano reggiano
1 wedge jarlsberg swiss cheese
1 log herbed goat cheese

GROCERY
1  32 oz container vegetable or chicken stock
Extra virgin olive oil
Bay leaves
Olives
Nuts

BAKERY
2 crusty baguettes




Organization and Other Thoughts

  • Check your pantry.  Do you already have: extra virgin olive oil, a head of garlic, bay leaves?
  • We have been using the Colavita extra virgin olive oil and think it is very good.
  • Plum tomatoes are very good for this recipe.  Depending on their size you may need two or three.
  • Clementine oranges are nice and sweet.  You can also buy what's marketed now as "cuties" which are super sweet.
  • Our favorite hard salami is finocchiona.  You should pick what you love.
