Shopping List

1 bunch flat leaf parsley
1 head of garlic
1 bunch fresh basil
1 small red onion

1 jar capers
1 tin flat anchovies in oil
dried oregano
kalamata olives
extra virgin olive oil
1 28 oz can San Marzano tomatoes

Dry white wine


  • STOP!  I am always going to remind you to check your pantry against your shopping list before you leave for the grocery store so you don't buy something you already have.
  • Organize your shopping list.  Add up the total amount of a single ingredient you will need for all dishes. List items to correspond with the layout of your supermarket.
  • Don't use the curly parsley, it has to be flat Italian parsley
  • Those red onions are huge usually,  Pick out a medium one and cut it in half.  The store didn't have red onions (go figure) so I substituted a 4 large shallots.  It was fine.
  • No kidding San Marzano tomatoes taste better.  First time I ever used them and now I am hooked.
